Konnichiwa!

Bryant Park speaks Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, and Japanese with instruction by inlingua. Learn a new language in these standalone beginner classes. Classes are not cumulative, so you may attend any class throughout the season without needing to play catch up.

Registration is required, and opens one week before each class date. Please email inlinguainBryantPark@inlingua.com to reserve a spot. 20 student capacity per class. Attendance limited to one class for each language offered.

 A Note on Russ Kassoff

Russ Kassoff is currently playing trio and solo jazz concerts, clubs, festivals, master classes, private parties, and continues to perform in concert as conductor/pianist to Rita Moreno. In addition, Russ recently appeared as pianist/conductor for Tony Award winner Debbie Gravitte and members of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. 

Past achievements include: In 2015 Russ was the Leader of the “House Band” for The Sinatra 100 Concert - 100 songs selected and hosted by The Jonathan Channel’s legendary Jonathan Schwartz, at Symphony Space, featuring countless terrific performers - including Tierney Sutton, Marilyn Maye, Tony Danza, Rebecca Luker, Kate Davis, Angel Reda, Karen Wyman, Julian Fleisher and Storm Large; In 2012 he was music director for the Pasadena Symphony & Pops concert in memory of Marvin Hamlisch; In 2010 he was conductor/pianist on Broadway in Twyla Tharp's critically acclaimed Come Fly Away, featuring 15 magnificent dancers accompanied by a 19 piece big-band playing live to the voice of Frank Sinatra; Broadway also saw Russ as music director/conductor/ pianist for Charles Aznavour in '98; Russ toured as pianist to Frank Sinatra by request from '80-'91 - including the Ultimate Event tour with Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin and Liza Minnelli; He served as pianist/accompanist for Liza Minnelli from ’82 -'01 and was Minnelli's music director and conductor for the highly acclaimed Minnelli on Minnelli National Tour ('00); In '07, Russ appeared as a featured guest on Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz on NPR. 

Since 2003 Russ has been music director/pianist to Rita Moreno and is a featured performer at The Knickerbocker in NYC where he holds a 30-year association with Jazz legend Bucky Pizzarelli. (Next appearance there is November 18 & 19 with jazz bassist extraordinaire Jay Anderson. Jay appears on the 2015 Grammy Award winning Best Large Jazz Ensemble with The Maria Schneider Orchestra, as well as her collaboration with David Bowie on the Grammy winning song Sue.) His current CD Bird Fly By achieved #1 status on Music Choice, was in the top-10 for over a year, and has received much critical acclaim. 

Coming up, Russ will conduct and play for Robert Davi (Infamous James Bond Villain) as he does Davi Sings Sinatra, 3 nights at Feinstein’s 54 Below on August 18, 19, 20. And there’s Rita Moreno in Concert on Sunday, September 25 at 3pm at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center. Later this year Russ plans to release his 3rd CD as leader - I Can Dream Solo & Trio with featured players Jay Anderson on bass and Dennis Mackrel on drums.

Russ has a new radio show, The Jazz Deli with Russ Kassoff broadcasts and streams live every Saturday from 10am to Noon. Just go to WFDU.FM and click on “Listen to HD2”. You will be given a player to hear the program instantly. The show features recordings, with no more than 2 degrees of separation, involving Russ’s eclectic and grateful career in many facets of music and show business. It’s great to see the Starship Enterprise manned by the old (no offense) crew…William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, George Takei, et al. Classic films under the stars on the big screen. Bring a blanket and sit on the lawn to enjoy great food, friends, plus a classic Warner Brothers cartoon before each film.

The lawn opens at 5:00pm for blankets and picnicking. Films begin at sunset (typically between 8pm and 9pm).

Bryant Park Tai Chi is provided by the Tai Chi Chuan Center and led by teachers and students who train at CK Chu Tai Chi under the direction of Jeremy Hubbell.

Perfect your downward dog under the trees at our 13th season of outdoor yoga classes, presented by Athleta with instructors curated by Yoga Journal. Athleta provides a colorful selection of mats - no need to bring your own.

Today's class is led by Loretta Turner. Loretta found yoga in 2009 and was immediately drawn to the asana that was so closely tied to her roots in dancing. She eventually received her certificationin April 2011 and enjoys teaching an open-level vinyasa flow that is often described as fluid, but deceivingly challenging. Loretta is currently completing her 700-HR training to become a yoga therapist, and also teaches to a wide range of vulnerable populations including, cancer patients, at-risk youth, and addiction recovery through Kula for Karma.

Join The Rise NYC, a community-driven pop-up fitness group, for a Boot Camp on the Fountain Terrace, on the Sixth Avenue side of the park. Rotations through exercises like crunches, planks, push-ups, burpees, and mountain climbers ensure a mixture of cardio and strength training that will keep you coming back--and seeing results. 

No equipment necessary; smiles and high-fives encouraged. Rain or shine.

This class, presented by the Shinnyo Center for Meditation & Well-Being, translates fundamental Buddhist principles into experiences that can be accessible to anyone in contemporary society. The Walking Meditation classes will begin at the Upper Terrace gravel (across from the Bryant Park Cafe) with opening remarks and instruction; then, the class will conduct a slow and mindful turn about the park. With the Walking Meditation class, you'll have already had a powerful experience by the time you go into work!

 

Join us for an enjoyable walking tour of Bryant Park, and discover how Bryant Park Corporation successfully transformed "Needle Park" of the 1970s into Manhattan's Town Square of today. Our guides are loaded with expertise on the park's rich history, award-winning design, distinct amenities, and ongoing maintenance efforts.

Tours will continue as scheduled in light rain, but will be cancelled in heavy rain or inclement weather.

Participants with the lowest scores from any of the Putting Tournament Qualifying Rounds will be invited to the Championship Round. Golfers who choose to participate in more than one qualifying round will have their highest score counted toward their qualifying score. 

The Championship Prize is provided by Golfsmith.

Pre-register for the session you'd like to attend, and arrive 10 minutes before your session start time to check in. Kat uses her passion for the yoga practice, love for anatomy and biomechanics, and lifelong surrounding of yoga philosophy to inspire her students to achieve their highest potential through the path of the yoga practice. Kat's teaching methodology is rooted in the true knowledge of the yoga practice that comes from a lifetime of personal experience.

Jay appears on the 2015 Grammy Award winning Best Large Jazz Ensemble with The Maria Schneider Orchestra, as well as her collaboration with David Bowie on the Grammy winning song Sue.) His current CD Bird Fly By achieved #1 status on Music Choice, was in the top-10 for over a year, and has received much critical acclaim. 

Coming up, Russ will conduct and play for Robert Davi (Infamous James Bond Villain) as he does Davi Sings Sinatra, 3 nights at Feinstein’s 54 Below on August 18, 19, 20. And there’s Rita Moreno in Concert on Sunday, September 25 at 3pm at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center. Later this year Russ plans to release his 3rd CD as leader - I Can Dream Solo & Trio with featured players Jay Anderson on bass and Dennis Mackrel on drums.

Russ has a new radio show, The Jazz Deli with Russ Kassoff broadcasts and streams live every Saturday from 10am to Noon. Just go to WFDU.FM and click on “Listen to HD2”. You will be given a player to hear the program instantly. The show features recordings, with no more than 2 degrees of separation, involving Russ’s eclectic and grateful career in many facets of music and show business. INTERSECT gives New Yorkers the rare opportunity to experience some of the best players in jazz and classical music, all on one bill. With five ensembles each night – including internationally renowned veterans such as Chris Potter, Andy Akiho, Dan Tepfer and Ethan Iverson, as well as some of the most talented and exciting up-and-coming artists – the three evening series showcases world-class performances in these seemingly disparate genres. The series features standards and new works, including commissions and world premieres, and is produced with Chamber Music America and curated by composer and saxophonist Patrick Zimmerli.

 

Stop in during our weekly Game Socials to play multi-player co-op, strategy, and party games. The first session is structured as a game demo so you can learn the basics. In the weeks following, join the social to develop strategy and skill.
