Brazilian/American pianist Luiz Simas is a versatile performer who feels totally at ease with both the music of his native Brazil and the American genres of jazz, ragtime and stride. Keyboard Magazine has described his playing as "sassy, clear and vibrant", and his music as "fresh, smart and witty". His latest CD, Mata Atlantica (Atlantic Forest) Piano Suite, was released by Lydjul Music in 2011.

Sanctuary Director, Terri Jones, and her sociable, people-friendly birds can be found near Le Carrousel every Tuesday this summer, weather permitting.

Stop by to watch, ask questions, interact with the birds, or just take pictures.

Music to start the end of your day

The Hot Sardines sound is steeped in hot jazz, salty stride piano, and the kind of music Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt, and Fats Waller used to make: Straight-up, foot-stomping jazz. They manage to invoke the sounds of a near-century ago and stay resolutely in step with the current age.


Perfectly timed for an early evening visit to the park, Bryant Park After Work features free concerts with talented New York area jazz musicians and singer-songwriters.

Make Music New York

Israeli pianist and composer Alon Yavai now lives in Brooklyn and has toured worldwide, recorded, and performed with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Nancy Wilson, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Lovano, The New York Voices, Bob Moses, Rosa Passos, and Claudio Roditi. For almost seven years, Mr. Yavai was part of Paquito D'Rivera's Latin Jazz Quintet.

Now in its sixth year, Make Music New York, is a festival of over 1,000 free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City, all on Thursday, June 21, the first day of summer. MMNY takes place simultaneously with similar festivities in more than 460 cities around the world in a global celebration of music making.

Classic fairy tales burst into song with Moey's Music Party's performance in Bryant Park. Moey invites kids to dress up in their sparkly finest as they dance along to songs from Moey's new CD, Princess Revolution. Moey gives Sleeping Beauty and Snow White a modern musical power spin. Time Out New York Kids writes Moey's Music Party is "sure to transport the under-10 set into a genuine- tizzy!"

The world's largest short film festival is coming to Bryant Park.

Free and hosted by Hugh Jackman, Tropfest showcases a competition of short films created by independent filmmakers especially for the evening.

Live music and DJs start at 3:00pm and the short film screenings begin at 8:00pm.
