Eventbrite - Artists' Studio Workshop: Urban Sketching with Marilyn Rose

Urban Sketching Workshop

Urban sketching has become a popular pursuit and Bryant park is an ideal location for this workshop because of the variety of people and activities within it and the architecture that surrounds it. Using a “scribble and refine” approach to drawing, with a simple ink pen, will build confidence. We will practice how to really “see” what is in front of us, and capture it on the page by looking at shapes not objects, and exploring the spaces and connections between things.  Adding words, collage and color will help you learn to fill the page and create a visual diary of the world around you and send you on your way to recording the story of your life through sketches.

An accomplished watercolor artist, Marilyn Rose is a signature member of many art organizations including the Catharine Lorillard Wolf Art Club, The Northeast Watercolor Club and The New Jersey Water Color Club. She has won numerous awards in juried shows and plein air events, teaches regular classes in the tri-state area at the Art School at the Old Church in Demarest, NJ and is often asked to give workshops and demonstrations. She is rarely seen without her sketchbook, and she credits urban sketching as visual calisthenics, which helps her to really see and take in her surroundings while sharpening her skills and visual acuity.

Marilyn often speaks to students, about the creative process:  how to censor their own critical voices, make choices, cede control, and take risks that help them to integrate the things they have learned from successes as well as failures. “There is nothing more rewarding to me than to watch a student transported by the process and fall in love with art making” says Marilyn.

You can see more of her work at www.Marilynroseart.com and “like” her Facebook page, Marilyn Rose Art to see her weekly postings of Friday Flowers and other works in progress.
